Thank you for your interest in the FREE “Functional Skills - English and maths” courses organised by MacLav for the areas: Birmingham, Boston, Burton, Chesterfield, Corby, Coventry, Crewe, Derby, Grantham, Grimsby, Hinckley, Hull, Leicester, Lincoln, Loughborough, Luton, Lutterworth, Mansfield, Melton-Mowbray, Milton Keynes, Newark, Northampton, Nottingham, Nuneaton, Redditch, Retford, Rugby, Shirebrook, Stamford, Stoke-On-Trent, Walsall. Currently, NO COURSES for people living in postcode areas of: Manchester, Liverpool, London, Sheffield, and Peterborough.

We remind you that since mid-2024, all Open Days have been conducted live online via ZOOM.

CONCERNING the course:

  • COURSE START: End of April 2025
  • COURSE DURATION: 12-14 weeks (depending on the level)

All British proficiency levels: Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1, Level 2 with a certified exam. Group learning with a teacher takes place from home (live, via computer or phone) in the form of ZOOM videoconferencing. Options include: weekend course or weekday (evening) course.

MANDATORILY check, before you start, if you reside in the areas where enrollments took place – the list of cities is available above. REMEMBER that at the same time you can only participate in one government-funded course. This means that if someone wants to attend an ESOL course at another college, they should choose only one course.

DEADLINES: Electronic form by 27 April 2025, 1pm. Online Tests by 27 April 2025, 1pm.

Course details:

  • We offer all British proficiency levels: Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2 with a recognised Certificate once you have successfully passed the course.
  • The course is FREE and fully funded by the government.
  • This course is for EVERYONE (both employed and unemployed).
  • This course is NOT available to Student Visa holders.

You can choose to study either two evenings a week, or during both days during the weekend. Lesson times are:

  1. Midweek course (evening):  Two classes per week, from 6pm to 9pm, both days MUST be attended.
  2. OR 10am to 1pm on a Saturday and Sunday, both days MUST be attended.
